Squealing or grinding when you stop, a pedal that feels soft or sinks toward the floor, a pulsing steering wheel under braking, or a vehicle that pulls to one side are all signs the brakes are due. So is a brake warning light. Brakes wear gradually, so a quick inspection when you first notice a change usually means pads instead of pads, rotors and calipers.
